James Toseland teams up with Cheshire Safer Roads on biker iPhone and Android app

James ToselandJames Toseland, the talented former double World Superbike Champion, is teaming up with Cheshire Safer Roads Partnership to launch a new smartphone app for bikers.

Project iBiker, which is backed by the Department for Transport and is set to launch in March on the iPhone and Android platforms, will be a unique app that will create a rewarding experience to bikers. Project iBiker will enable bikers to:

· Plan, plot and save their rides/routes.

· Highlight points of interests, including pubs, cafes, cash points, petrol stations and meeting points.

· Rate routes.

· Connect with the biking community by sharing information about their rides/routes via Facebook and Twitter

· Highlight “the most risky roads and routes” to bikers in the UK.

· Provide interactive information and advice on how to ride safely and responsibly, including video run-throughs of known collision hotspots.

· Learn about and sign up to BikeSafe post-test training.

Watch “myth busting” and maintenance videos, which will star James Toseland.

Cheshire Safer Roads will be filming with James on the Isle of Man to produce a series of short videos covering braking, bike stability, cornering, maintenance, collisions and clothing. “I’m delighted to be working with Cheshire Safer Roads on this exciting project,” said James. “I hope that the films I’ll be involved in and the app will provide invaluable information that will not only improve bikers’ understanding of the risks involved when they are out riding, but also help them pick up vital new skills and knowledge. At the same time, Project iBiker is going to be fun and there’ll be lots of ways bikers can customise and interact with it.”

“We are thrilled and excited that James is working with us on Project iBiker. He is arguably one of the most skilled and experienced riders in the world,” said Gurminder Marwaha of Cheshire Safer Roads. “James brings priceless knowledge and hopefully bikers will be inspired and influenced by what he has to say. We’re also delighted by the response of bikers on the ThinkBiker Facebook page. The motorbiking community has played an important role in helping choose the name and design of Project iBiker, and quite rightly as the app has been designed specifically for them. Ultimately, we want to give bikers as much information as possible to enable them to stay safe on the roads.”
