Bald tyre prosecutions on the increase
Figures released by the Ministry of justice show that prosecutions for defective tyres have risen by 14%.
The figures show that in 2008 just over 4,300 defendants were found guilty of driving with defective tyres. This is a seven year high from a previous low of 3,595 in 2006. It is a current legal requirement that the tread depth around the complete circumference of the tyre (generally cars) be a minimum of 1.6mm and 1.0mm for motorcycles.
You should check your tyres at least weekly before your ride, you have been warned!
